Description
The HIV/AIDS Prevention Advisor serves as a leading technical expert on the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV, including a focus on key populations. The HIV/AIDS Prevention Advisor will work in close collaboration with other technical experts within USAID�s Prevention team, including the Strategic Prevention, DREAMS and Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) sub-teams to strengthen linkages between, and integration across, these technical areas. The HIV/AIDS Prevention Advisor will also work in close collaboration with other USAID technical teams beyond Prevention, including the Care & Treatment team and the Health Systems Strengthening team, among others, to strengthen linkages between, and integration across, these technical areas. These collaborative efforts will also extend to other technical experts within the USAID Health Team and other USG agencies. He/she will be responsible for overseeing the overall strategic direction, relevance, coverage and quality of the portfolio for the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV, and for the design, implementation and evaluation of related HIV prevention activities implemented by USAID. S/He is a critical part of the Prevention team and provides HIV Prevention technical assistance to the broader health office portfolio. S/He is actively engaged in the U.S. government inter-agency as part of the PEPFAR Prevention Technical Working Group. S/He works closely with the South African Department of Health, Department of Social Development, Department of Education and other South African government institutions (e.g. The South African National Aids Council (SANAC) to advance the goals of PEPFAR. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring the coherence and coordination of USAID�s HIV prevention activities with interventions funded by other USG agencies. S/He will coordinate USAID and USG HIV prevention portfolios with the national government�s HIV and AIDS prevention strategy and with government, other donor and NGO prevention activities in South Africa. S/He will initiate strategies to strengthen coordination and harmonization of HIV prevention approaches and messages across USG-funded prevention activities. S/He assists the Mission in the development and implementation of effective strategies to inform social and behavior change (SBC) programming in various areas including PrEP demand creation and support for continued use, Antiretroviral Therapy adherence, community mobilization for HIV prevention, etc. to further PEPFAR and USAID health objectives. The Advisor collaborates with all members of the USAID team, other USG agencies involved in PEPFAR, counterparts in South African government ministries and agencies, a wide range of civil society and private organizations, and other donor and international organizations working on programs and systems related to health and HIV/AIDS.
