- Description
- The United States Government has a requirement for a 2-ton overhead crane. Materials are to be shipped to: Director, ASC PSCC (AMAS-SPI-L/ Ms. Janelle Farkas), Building 2, Bay 5,11 Hap Arnold Boulevard, Tobyhanna, PA 18466-5097. The Government is seeking to replace one of its current cranes; a roof-supported, motorized, traveling-beam bridge crane. A drawing of the existing crane, which was installed in 1962, can be found in Appendix C. The construction of this crane includes what is referred to as zipper rail, which involves two separate beams that are welded together to create each track for the bridge and crane. As the metal fatigues over time, the welds are prone to failure. Due to the physical characteristics of this type of construction, one weld failure often causes a chain reaction of each weld after it to fail in turn until the entire rail has failed. When this happens, the crane is no longer repairable and will be permanently taken out of service if any issue or failure occurs. Without an operational crane, safety and accuracy of the Governments testing mission and functions would be compromised. Testing activities require the movement of drums, intermediate bulk containers (IBC), crates, plastic cases, and other packaging. Testing activities serve to ensure that assets can perform in rigorous transportation conditions, and are available and issued to our Soldiers in a safe and field-ready condition. Materiel readiness and asset performance is a critical component of ASCs mission to synchronize and integrate key elements of the Sustainment Enterprise to delivery-ready forces, enable strategic power projection, and sustain operational reach in order to win during large-scale combat and multi-domain operations. Please see the PWS and Appendix C, Existing Crane Drawing attached.
