Description
The U.S. Department of Labor (Department) will host a virtual Vendor Industry Day for currently available industry solutions with a focus on fraud prevention and detection applicable to Unemployment Insurance (UI) programs. The Department is interested in solutions that could eliminate or mitigate equity impacts in using these controls or solutions. By way of background, the Department is responsible for the oversight of Federal-State UI and related income support programs. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the UI system has become a significant target for sophisticated and organized criminal fraud. The fraud schemes are constantly evolving to circumvent the prevention and detection tools and strategies implemented by State Workforce Agencies (SWAs). With a historical focus on SWA improper payment strategies, the Department has expanded its focus to addressing the significant rise in criminal fraud infiltrating the UI programs. While the Department understands that addressing the root causes of improper payments remains an important and priority focus, the Department is also seeking to coordinate fraud prevention and detection efforts and provide resources and strategies to state UI programs to combat these criminal enterprises. Further, the Department seeks to identify strategies and solutions that incorporate equitable access to mitigate access barriers to legitimate claimants. In the context of fraud management, equitable access means that there are alternatives to digital mechanisms of identity proofing; that the mechanisms used to prove identity or flag for fraud do not contain racial, gender, or other bias; and that data is available to understand the impact of fraud mitigation on eliminating barriers that prevent full and equal access to benefits for all eligible individuals. The Department will host its Vendor Industry Day on November 17, 2021. Participation in this event will require vendors to provide an overview of technology solutions that could position SWAs to maximize their fraud prevention and detection, as well as recovery of overpayments efforts. Attendance at this event shall not be considered a commitment of any kind by the Government. The Government will not reimburse any cost to prepare for or participate in this Vendor Industry Day event. SPONSORED BY: U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management, and the Employment and Training Administration WHEN: November 17, 2021 TIME: Vendor Demonstration: 45 Min sessions will be scheduled for vendors to market themselves throughout the day. Lunch Break: 12:00 pm 1:00 pm End: 4:00 pm PLATFORM: Microsoft Teams COST: Event is Free REGISTRATION: Space is limited.
