Description
1.0 Introduction This contract involves the development and integration of an organic Air Force capability to process recorded data from Air Force aircraft. 1.1 Background The Air Force Safety Centers Mishap Analysis & Animation Facility (MAAF) is the central Air Force focal point for the extraction and analysis of recorded data from USAF aircraft following a mishap or incident. The recorded data may come from a flight data recorder (FDR), cockpit voice recorder (CVR), radar, telemetry and other sources. In 2011, the government awarded contract number FA9401-11-C-0048 to L3 Communications (now L3 Harris) to procure a Crash Data Extraction System (CDES) that would allow MAAF personnel to extract data from the Crash-Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU) installed in the F-22A aircraft. Contract FA9401-12-C-0027 was later awarded to modify the CDES to add the capability to extract data from L3s SRVIVR CSMU installed in the F-15C/D/E and the SRVIVR variant installed in the F-35A/B/C. Since that time, a number of other Air Force and Navy Program Offices have installed, or are planning to install, SRVIVR recorders into their aircraft. MAAF requires an updated system to allow extraction of data from the additional recorders. 1.2 Scope This contract provides for the modernization and upgrade of the MAAF FDR/CVR lab. At the conclusion of this contract, the MAAF will have a modern and comprehensive capability for extracting data from all models of the SRVIVR recorder, in addition to the existing F-22/F-15/F-35 capability.
