The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 4, 1111 East End Blvd, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711, is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources to provide courier services for the Coatesville VA Medical Center, located at; 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. The following requirements must be met. PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT Coatesville Courier Service for Agent Cashier and Canteen Services Background: Located off of US Route 30 in western Chester County, Pennsylvania, the Coatesville VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a specialty referral (long-term), neuro psychiatric facility. In addition to hospital programs in medicine, intermediate medicine and psychiatry, the center incorporates a nursing home care unit and a domiciliary program. The center provides many special programs, such as geriatric and long term care, treatment and assistance for homeless veterans, post-traumatic stress disorder, seriously mental ill veterans, substance abuse and woman s residential care, mental hygiene, intensive psychiatric community care, physical medicine and rehabilitation therapies, neurology, respite care, telemedicine and pulmonary medicine. Two collaborative, community-style living programs are operated on the grounds of the medical center via sharing agreements. The Coatesville VAMC Canteen is one of 172 canteens operated by the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at VA medical centers across the country. It is a self-sustaining business at no cost to America s taxpayers; associates salaries and operating expenses are paid from VCS earnings. Every dollar of income generated by VCS is returned to the medical centers to help improve the quality of life for the Veterans and to improve quality of the workplace for VA employees. VCS has received many Vice Presidential Hammer Awards for innovative concepts in its food and retail activities. Veterans Canteen Service was first established by Congress in 1946 and has taken great personal and professional pride in serving the best customers in the nation-the veteran patients of the U.S. Armed Forces and related services at reasonable prices in VA Medical Centers across the country. Today, most people refer to VCS as the Canteen . The Canteen has evolved from what originally began as a collection of limited menu soda fountains and small crowded gift shops to a nationwide system of modern food courts and retail stores. Our Canteens offer a variety of menu selections in a modern food court environment, 24 hour vending outlets, and a broad range of national brand merchandise. Today s canteens are considered by many customers to be The VA Company Store, benefiting Veterans, their family members and the VA Health Care workers.
