Description
The Environmental Laboratory (EL) is recognized worldwide as the problem solver in environmental science and engineering research for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Research and development activities address a multitude of environmental issues to support civil works and water resources. On-going occurrences of harmful algal blooms (HABs) consisting of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) negatively impact USACE operations by impeding the intended uses of water resources due to ecological and human health risks. Many harmful cyanobacteria can produce overwintering cells that can remain viable in the sediment and contribute to the intensity and frequency of annual bloom events. To date there is limited information on the potential effectiveness of using registered algaecides for controlling overwintering cells. Therefore, there is a need to investigate if algaecides can be strategically used to mitigate viable cells prior to germination and growth of overwintering cells, potentially minimizing the impacts of HABs later in the year. Detailed specifications will be available on the Beta.Sam.gov website at https://beta.sam.gov/ on or about 19May2021. Hard copies will not be available. Offerors should check the Beta.Sam.gov web page often for new solicitations and/or changes (AMENDMENTS) to existing ones. No technical questions will be considered prior to the release of the solicitation.
