- Description
- The Cryofracture process is basically freezing the munitions in liquid nitrogen and then taking the munition and crushing it into smaller pieces using a hydraulic press. The Cryofracture process at TEAD will play the role of pre-processing (crushing) of selected HE filled munitions, such as grenades, bomblets and 40mm rounds to be demilitarized in the existing Ammunition Peculiar Equipment (APE) 1236 test furnace. HE filled munitions represent a large percentage of the current B5A demil stockpile which do not have a standard method of demilitarization and are a high priority to be addressed. The current equipment in place is at end of life. The contractor will be required to analyze/identify potential solutions, purchase equipment, perform tooling/creation of new parts where commercially available equipment is not readily available, and integration of the components to derive at the final solution. Testing will be required to validate the solutions success.
