This requirement is NOT set-aside for small business. This is a brand name acquisition. Background: The mission here at the Vaccine Research Center is to determine the immune correlates of protection against emerging infectious diseases. One of the specific aims of the lab is to understand processes that determine the course of human diseases in which the immune system plays a central role in their pathogenesis and outcome. We use the knowledge gained from studies on human disease directly in humans, with as little in vitro manipulation as possible to initiate clinical studies of new therapeutic and vaccine approaches. Many of our current projects will investigate RNA expression profiles of cell subsets from HTVN505 volunteers to identify markers are predictive of susceptibility to HIV acquisition. By far, the most robust approach to measure gene expression is RNA sequencing (RNAseq). Description and purpose of the Requirement: This request is for the MAGPIX analyzer that will be used to perform up to 50 assays. This new equipment is needed to replace our and outdated plate reader. This plate reader is a critical component of several assays used by our lab. The MAGPIX platform is needed because it has the needed sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio; 2) It has the needed flexibility to read both 96- well format plates in 60 minutes; 3) it has the multiplexing of up to 10 analytes per well which is needed for current research time restriction. 4. ) We need a platform to perform 50 tests in a single reaction volume. This brand of software is compatible and approved with current software and network systems.
