- OBJECTIVE To contract maintenance assistance to perform general labor to assist with maintenance, repairs and groundskeeping for the Auke Bay Laboratories facilities and equipment in Juneau and Little Port Walter, Alaska.� The successful contractor will be expected to provide general maintenance assistance on facilities, grounds, and equipment.� Position will involve operation of government vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.� SCOPE OF WORK The contractor will be providing labor to assist the facilities and science staff at the Auke Bay Laboratory Facilities in Juneau and on Baranoff Island, Alaska. The individual contractor will work up to 40 hours per week at the ABL facilities depending on the need. An option for an additional 800 hours to be awarded before the end of the term of this contract is included should the workload justify the additional time. This solicitation also includes line items for transportation to allow the contractor to bill the government for the cost of round trip transportation to and from LPW during the base period of this contract, with the option to add additional transportation if needed. The government will pay actual transportation costs incurred. The contractor will need to provide copies of the tickets or charter receipt. This contractor will work with others as part of a team or independently, and assist in responding to planned periodic maintenance and unplanned maintenance repair service requests as assigned. They may be required to perform work with varying degrees of complexity, crossover technical trade requirements, and general maintenance requirements. The candidate shall be knowledgeable of one or more technical trades and possess basic skills to carry out assigned work requirements. Must be generally familiar with technical requirements, have basic knowledge of building codes, regulatory requirements and/or directives. Also familiar with all safety, environmental, and recycling program requirements in preferred area of expertise and as it relates to the facilities and science staff at the Auke Bay Laboratory Facilities. SPECIFIC TASKS The contractor will be providing general facilities maintenance and repair services at the Auke Bay Laboratory facilities to support routine daily operations of the facility. The contractor shall perform all operations and services using equipment and materials supplied by the National Marine Fisheries Service, Auke Bay Laboratory.� This equipment includes; skid steer loader, wheel loader, excavator, truck-mounted snowplows, forklifts, and government fleet vehicles to include trucks and vans.� The contractor will perform trails, grounds, lawn and landscape maintenance and repair and snow removal. The contractor will provide assistance to the facilities staff in other facilities maintenance and repair tasks for facilities and grounds. Assistance will include but will not be limited to: Assistance for maintenance personnel performing basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry maintenance and repair tasks. Repairs to seawater systems and associated components, building support systems, wet lab aquaria systems, laboratory equipment and support systems, freezers, and HVAC systems. Repairs to docks, floats, piers, dock handling equipment, hatchery equipment, and hatchery weir collection systems. Operation of heavy equipment to assist with site preparation and site improvements.� Equipment includes: Wheel loaders, skid-steer loaders, forklifts, cranes, and boom trucks. The contractor shall provide pricing for two round trip charter trips from Juneau to LPW. The contractor will be reimbursed for actual travel costs after travel has been completed. If additional trips are required, this contract provides a line item for additional transportation as needed. Place and Period of Performance Primary Place of Work: Juneau, Alaska with trips to Little Port Walter on South Baranof Island as required. The successful contractor will be working outdoors in all weather conditions and should prepare and dress appropriately.� Period of Performance: The period of performance for this order will be from the Date of Award through Sept 2021. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications: The successful contractor will be able to document previous experience performing general labor related to the specific tasks listed above. The successful contractor will have a valid driver�s license prior to operation of a government licensed vehicle. Able to provide 3 references if requested. Contractor Provided The contractor shall provide adequate boots, rain gear (bibs and hooded coat), gloves, and warm clothing, and other personal items necessary for participation in field activities. The contractor will be required to provide their own cell phone service at their expense. Government Provided Auke Bay Laboratories will provide the following necessary for all functions of this contract: survey gear and equipment, sampling equipment, and documentation for the standard operating procedures and related protocols.
