Description
The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet qualification requirements for the production of the Type III X-ray Apparatus Set which shall be compatible with the X-ray Safety Interlock System NSN 6635-01-508-1519 as identified in the Product Description. This acquisition is for commercial equipment meeting the characteristics of the Product Description X-ray Apparatus Set, Radiographic, Industrial, Portable, 160KVCP. The acquisition strategy is a five-year contract (basic plus four option years) and will continue through FY26. The USG plans to procure 80 systems per year. The Type III X-ray Apparatus Set is a type of Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) equipment used to inspect parts for flaws and is used by the NDI program in a military aircraft maintenance environment both at Continental United States (CONUS) and outside of the Continental United States (OCONUS) military bases, and deployed to austere forward operating locations. This equipment can be utilized for inspection on a wide variety of materials sustained by the Air Force. A typical X-ray Apparatus Set consists of a self contained X-ray generator, control unit, and cables. X-rays are high-energy photons that are produced when electrons make transitions from one atomic orbit to another. Changes in the composition of an object or changes in density of an object are detected by X-ray NDT. Exposure to excessive x-ray radiation is harmful to human beings; therefore, the Type III X-ray Apparatus Set shall be designed to minimize the danger of exposure to direct or stray radiation. A drawing package is not included as part of this market research.
