- Description
- Access to Compendex on Engineering Village database Background The NIST Information Services Office (ISO, aka the Library), through teams focusing on Resource, Access & Data, Outreach & Marketing Group, and Museum & Archives provides professional scientific and technical information assistance to a community of 3,000 researchers throughout their research and publishing cycles. The Library provides accurate, high quality, and timely research consulting and information products and ensures that users can discover and obtain the digital and print resources needed to support NIST's mission. A large part of the information resources made available to the NIST researchers are e-resources in the form of e-journals, digitized versions of NIST technical publications, databases, and e-books made accessible through the NVL. The history of NISTs accomplishments and contributions to measurement science is captured and made available to researchers around the world through the NVM and NDA. The NIST Research Library has had access to the Compendex on Engineering Village database since 2004 and has been one of the most-heaviest used resources with over 30000 downloads per year. The purpose of this requisition is to continue access to the database, which provides broad subject areas of engineering and applied science in a comprehensive manner. Coverage includes nuclear technology, bioengineering, transportation, chemical and process engineering, light and optical technology, agricultural engineering and food technology, computers and data processing, applied physics, electronics and communications, control, civil, mechanical, materials, petroleum, aerospace and automotive engineering as well as narrower subtopics within all these and other major engineering fields. Compendex offers article level linking to the various databases and electronic journal subscriptions that the NIST Research Library subscribes to, so that NIST engineers need only to click through from their search to full text results. The NIST Research Library requires access to bibliographic citations, abstracts and full text in the field of Engineering for NIST Engineers. It is critical NIST engineers research to have access to the most current engineering information in the most comprehensive database of engineering material. Compendex is the broadest and most complete engineering literature database available in the world. It provides a truly holistic and global view of peer reviewed and indexed publications with over 20 million records from 77 countries across 190 engineering disciplines. Every record is carefully selected and indexed using the Engineering Index Thesaurus to ensure discovery and retrieval of engineering-specific literature that NIST Researchers can rely on. Engineering Village is an essential resource for researchers as well as students to stay up to date in their field, acquire knowledge in new areas, set up research proposals and write papers. It is the leading information discovery platform specifically designed by and for the engineering community. By using Compendex, NIST researcher can be confident information is relevant, complete, accurate and of high quality. Requirements for Compendex on Engineering Village database Provide unlimited access to online coverage from 1884 to the present for 190 engineering disciplines from 77 countries; 2,200 publishers; 3,615 journals; 330 Open Access titles; 116 trade magazines; 95,790 conference proceedings; 78 book series; articles in press from 1,369 journals; and 119,273 dissertations in accordance with the attached content list. Provide a search interface which enables quick and easy access to content. Provide 24/7 electronic access to Compendex on Engineering Village database from NIST Researchers' desktops or anywhere within the NIST domain. Externally hosted database with IP authentication; Provide training and technical support The period of performance shall be one year from award. Delivery All content shall be accessed via the web. Internet connectivity shall make the content available to NIST personnel via IP authentication. The NIST IP addresses will be provided upon award.
