- Description
- Sources Sought (Special Notice) The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing a software package that can simulate the requisite range of physical processes (including heat transfer, fluid flow, solid deformation, and chemical reactions) with the flexibility to adjust parameters for the alien settings on other planetary bodies. This sources-sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 511210 Software Publishers and associated size standard $41.5 in millions of dollars apply to this announcement. All responsible sources may submit a capabilities statement detailing the ability of their product to meet the requirements included with this announcement. Responses to this announcement shall only be accepted through electronic mail addressed to Cheryl Ciccarelli, cciccarelli@usgs.gov and must be uploaded and received in their entirety no later than August 17, 2020. Responses submitted by hardcopy or the FedConnect web portal or the FedConnect Message Center shall not be accepted or considered. Background The USGS Astrogeology Science Center is called upon by NASA to solve some of the largest and most difficult problems in planetary science. To do this effectively, the USGS requires a flexible and powerful multi-physics simulation software package. Requirements The software package must stimulate the following requisite range of physical processes with the flexibility to adjust parameters for the alien settings on other planetary bodies: Heat Transfer Fluid Flow Solid Deformation Chemical reactions Phase Changes Porous Flow Convection The software must be able to operate in a Unix computer cluster environment Other Requirements: Training on the use of the software
