- Special Notice:� The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), National Reconditioning Center (NRC) awarded a Purchase Order for the repair and reconditioning of 150 each THERMOMETER, W/SHELTER ASSEMBLY, ASN:�C450-2 to Jake, Inc.� Sole Source Justification:� Due to NWS HQ level supply shortages of the Shelter Top plates and other key components, this local small business repair vendor has found a �work around� by replacing good plates from other units in order to complete repair and reconditioning of� units on previous purchase orders.� Jake, Inc. has a long successful track record of repairing and reconditioning these vital NWS components.� It would be detrimental to the mission of the NWS to compete and send this requirement to another repair vendor.� Current stock levels would be further diminished if these 150 units were not sent to Jake, Inc.� They currently have dozens of units from previous purchase orders and out of those units many are in need of shelter top plates which will be sourced from this new batch of 150 units.� Until NLSC stock levels of new shelter top plates can be replenished it is in the best interest of the government to sole source the repair and reconditioning of the ASN:�C450-2 from Jake, Inc.� By not awarding this purchase order on a sole source basis to Jake, Inc., the National Weather Service would be greatly impacted by other vendors not being able to repair the units because of the shortage of the shelter top that the NWS wouldn�t be apply to supply them and therefore there would be a shortage of stock of these units in the NLSC Warehouse.� There are 100 shelter top plates on order that are due to ship to NRC by September 30, 2020.
