- Synopsis The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to award a non-competitive, firm fixed price purchase order to Iowa State Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE), 1915 Scholl Road, 151 ASC II, Ames, Iowa 50011-3041 for Nondestrctive Evaluation Membership. The acquisition is conducted under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1. The designated North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 541690-Other Scientific and Technical Consulting Services. The anticipated period of performance is three year membership. Background � The Iowa State Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE), an Industry/University/ Government Cooperative Research Center formed in 1985 as a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, is solely dedicated to research and development for inspection and sensing technologies. The only Center of its kind in the United States, CNDE teams with industrial and government sponsors who help guide the research at CNDE and share the results. �At CNDE, experimental and theoretical capabilities are available for the full range of inspection methods including: ultrasonics, acoustics, electromagnetics, radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, thermal, ground-penetrating radar, microwave, millimeter wave and terahertz.� Additionally, over 30 scientists and engineers and a 52,000 sq. ft facility are devoted to the development and application of inspection and sensing technologies.� Objective � The objective of this acquisition is to provide three years of membership for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to participate in the Iowa State Center for Nondestructive Evaluation, an Industry/University/Government Cooperative Research Center. This acquisition supports NRC�s various nondestructive examination/evaluation (NDE) research programs by allowing the NRC access to (1) CNDE�s cutting edge research, information, knowledge, and data related to applications of �numerous NDE modalities and technologies, (2) a pipeline of students who have studied NDE at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and (3) engagement with NDE specialists from CNDE as well as those representing other industry and government sponsors of the CNDE.
