Description
The US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Region 8, intends to award a single construction contract for the Bald River Bridge Replacement Project on the Cherokee National Forest in Monroe County, Tennessee. The Bald River Falls Bridge is located at MP 6.11 on Tellico River Rd. (Nation Forest System Road 210). The bridge spans Bald River between Bald River Falls and the confluence with Tellico River. The project requires: 1) Replacement of the existing 3-span, 200 ft bridge with a new 2-span structure. The existing structure is a two lane, 20 ft wide bridge comprised of concrete abutments, steel girders and concrete deck. The new structure will be 173 ft long two lane structure with sidewalk and observation deck. It will be comprised of shallow foundation, concrete abutments founded on bedrock and a concrete box beam superstructure with a single 3-column center pier. Because the existing bridge is historic in nature, architectural features have been included in the design that require the utmost attention. Specifically, the center pier columns are rectangular to bring forward the components of the original design, real rock clad concrete columns are featured in the pedestrian walkway area and all formed concrete shall be board formed. Tellico River Road will be closed during construction, but shall not be closed for longer than 240 days. 2) Improvement of a by-pass route prior to the closure of Tellico River Road and maintained for the life of the contract. Improvements include replacement of existing culverts, drainage improvements, and aggregate surfacing. Approximately 50 culverts will be replaced and 9500 tons of rock will be placed. The magnitude of construction is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. A bid guarantee of 20% of the proposal price will be required. Payment and performance bonds will be required. Interested parties who intend on submitting a proposal must be capable of submitting 100% performance and payment bonds within 10 days after contract award. Solicitation materials will be uploaded to this site between June 4 and June 29, 2020. This will include specifications and all instructions in order to submit an offer. The solicitation materials will be available for viewing without charge here on beta.sam.gov. Interested parties are advised that registration in the System for Award Management (SAM) database is required prior to submission of a proposal. There is no cost for registration in SAM when registration is completed on the official SAM website (www.sam.gov).
