- Description
- This contracting action is the result of a successful proposal received under the ERDC Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) submitted a proposal titled, ""Characterizing Permafrost Terrains Using Machine Learning Techniques"" under Topic Area CRREL-2, ""Terrain Properties and Processes Technical Area."" The primary objective of FAUs research is to 1) statistically identify the relevant variables and quantify their contribution to standoff signals; 2) determine what, how, when, and where in-situ data reduction can be achieved to quantify terrain variables of ecotype, vegetation, soil moisture, seasonal thaw, surface inundation, and snowpack processes; and 3) develop robust geospatial machine learning models for mapping permafrost terrains at the regional scale using remote sensing data.
