- Description
- Introduction: In 2018, the U.S. Department of Energys Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) launched the American-Made Challenges (AMC). The AMC are a series of prize competitions to incentivize the nations entrepreneurs to strengthen American leadership in energy innovation and domestic manufacturing. Since the inaugural American-Made Solar Prize, the American-Made Challenges family now hosts ten different competitions across different renewable energy technology areas including solar, water, geothermal, batteries, and advanced manufacturing. The American-Made Challenges are supported by the American-Made Network, a community dedicated to rapidly accelerating and sustaining new, exciting energy technologies in the U.S.. Network members are called Connectors. Connectors can be national labs, incubators, accelerators, investors, philanthropists, fabrication facilities, technical experts, and other seasoned industry leaders who are motivated to support American energy innovation and domestic manufacturing. Objective: Based on the successful experiences with the Network to date, NRELs vision is to grow the Network to serve all prizes under the American-Made Challenges, other awardees supported by DOE and EERE, and eventually any energy innovator in the United States. The intent is not for each competition to precisely replicate how the Network is used today. Rather, the intent is to have a strong and diverse Network that each competition can tap into and use in a way that best supports its competitors. To do this, NREL is seeking partnerships with organizations to help accelerate the next stages of Network growth in two main areas (tracks): Improve the functionality, automation, and user experience of the Networks website Increase the visibility, longevity, sustainability, and reach of the Network Organizations may express interest in one or both task areas. NREL anticipates a subcontract with a period of performance of twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months and a ceiling of up to $250,000.00 per task area, for a total of up to $500,000.00, may be awarded as follow on to this LOI and a subsequent Request for Proposals (RFP).
