Description
The Government is conducting market research to determine an acquisition strategy to replace the 72kW and 60 kW GPU fleets of over 5,000 units combined. This includes identifying potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities and experience to design, test, and produce a 72kW GPU for the DoD. The potential acquisition strategies being considered range from awarding multiple long term contracts, to multiple contracts for design, with a down select prior to production. The Government seeks to maximize the use of non-developmental items. With the exception of some specialized aircraft, 72kW GPUs are used in some form or fashion with almost every aircraft in USAF inventory for pre-launch, recovery, as well as maintenance tasks. These GPUs are the primary source of ground power for aircraft that includes but is not limited to the C-130, C-17, C-5, B-1B, B-2, F-22, A-10, KC-135, B-52 and secondary power for F-15 and F-16. This effort is geared towards replacing the USAFs existing and aging 72kW and 60kW GPU fleets. Attached is a draft requirement that we are seeking industry input on. The USAF is seeking to maximize commercial and existing DoD technologies as much as possible. The USAF is also seeking information concerning the production capacity that currently exists.
