Description
The US Department of Energy, Savannah River Operations Office is seeking an expression of interestwith Gondola railcars that are available for purchase by a private entity. Gondola cars were manufactured by Thrall Car Incorporated. The Gondola cars were manufactured in 1998-1999, quantity 52, condition of cars is Code 4 useful. The cars were contaminated by a previous use hauling Uranium contaminated soils. Cars have been idle for ten years and will require brake and other minor repairs in order to be Department of Transportation (DOT) compliant. Gondola cars will be obtained on an as is basis. Based upon a detailed isotopic analysis it has been determined that these Gondola railcars contain localized areas of fixed depleted Uranium contamination. Interested parties will be responsible for repairs, restricted to radioactive use, buyer will be responsible for disposition and cost associated with movement from Department of Energy-Savannah River property. Buyers must demonstrate that they possess a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license with the appropriate scope for the type and quantity of the radioactive material intended to be transported. For each interested bidder, pleasesubmita copy of your Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license to the Point of Contact (POC) listed in the announcement. Only qualified potential buyers will be eligible to place a bid.Further instructions will followfor potential buyerswhen proof of this requirement is obtained and verified. Potential buyerswill comply with any additional requirements associated with the property. At the time of award, the buyer will be required to review and sign a Release of Claims form documenting relinquishment of the Government from any and all liabilities pertaining to the sale of the Gondola railcars. Please see attachments.
