Description

The United States Coast Guard, Surface Forces Logistics Command (SFLC) has a requirement to support, maintain and improve operations of the Allied Dual Point Davit system aboard the National Security Cutters (NSC). Recently SFLC has been directed by CG-45 memorandum ""ALLIED DUAL POINT DAVIT (DPD) REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENTS"" signed by C.S. Webb, Capt dated 23 August 2019. The improvements outlined in CG-45 memo directs SFLC to work directly with the OEM (Allied Systems, Inc.) with making improvements to davits Constant Tension system. Converting Constant tension (CT) system to individual CT engagement will enable operators to safely anticipate and control when CT engagement occurs. Along with CT modifications SFLC has also been directed to remove added weight by removing the Haul ball and adding the capability for operators to view the davits machinery space without the removal of maintenance panels. Market Research included with interviews with both Coast Guard and other davit manufacturers determine the additional cost required to re-engineer isn�t cost beneficial and will not meet anticipated timelines for incorporating approved changes. The Coast Guard does not own the proprietary rights to system design/interface. OEM also periodically upgrades system controls due to parts obsolescence and system improvements. *****SEE ATTACHMENT FOR MORE DETAILS*****
