Description
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), operated by Fermi Research Alliance LLC (FRA) under prime contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is undertaking an upgrade to the existing accelerator complex called the Proton Improvement Plan-II (PIP-II) which is a high-intensity proton facility to support a world-leading neutrino program over the next two decades at Fermilab. PIP-II is an integral part of the U.S. Intensity Frontier Roadmap as described in the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel report of May 2014, with an intermediate-term goal focused on upgrades to the Fermilab accelerator complex capable of providing a beam power in excess of 1 MW on target at the initiation of the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) operations. In a broader sense, PIP-II is a part of a longer-term concept for a sustained campaign of upgrades and improvements to achieve multi-MW proton beam capabilities at Fermilab. The general purpose of this Statement of Work (SOW) is to provide a broad outline of the professional services that may be required in the future, related to FRAs PIP-II project controls systems needs. FRA is seeking one or more Controls Engineering subcontractors to perform various engineering tasks. The specific number of engineers can vary due to FRA funding profiles and project requirements. The subcontractor(s) will develop, evaluate, upgrade, configure and commission distributed software control, data acquisition and monitoring systems based on the Experimental, Physical and Industrial Control System (EPICS) toolkit for accelerators such as PIP-II and other accelerator and experimental research facilities at Fermilab. The work to beperformed requires deep expertise with the EPICS and its associated tools and methods. The subcontractorwill perform work in a multi-disciplinary role, teaming with software, hardware, project and physics engineers and will have continuous interaction with internal partners comprised mainly of accelerator physicists and operators.
