- Title: Notice of Intent to Sole Source � Laboratory Equipment - Light Sheet Microscope Description(s): The National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) intends to award a Purchase Order to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC., 1 Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594, for a Light Sheet Microscope, which will be installed at NIEHS, Research Triangle Park campus. The North American industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 334516 and the business size standard is 1,000 Employees. NO SOLICITATION OR REQUEST FOR QUOTE (RFQ) IS AVAILABLE. It has been determined that Carl Zeiss is the only known responsible source capable of providing the required equipment and no other equipment will satisfy the agency's requirements. The purpose of this Purchase Order is to obtain Light Sheet Microscope from Carl Zeiss. The Fluorescence Microscopy & Imaging Center at NIEHS requires a light sheet microscope for visualization of a wide variety of biological samples.�Light sheet microscopes enable researchers to rapidly image fixed samples that have been optically cleared as well as living samples under incubation for multiple days.�A light sheet microscope at NIEHS would complement existing confocal systems and offer an increased research capability to NIEHS scientists.� �Due to the large breadth of research conducted within NIEHS, a single light sheet microscope must be able to image a large variety of samples and therefore must have the following minimum specifications:� Proven reliability with the system being on the market for at least 3 years Dual cameras Dual side illumination CO2 and temperature incubation for keeping specimens living for 4 days while imaging Pivot scan for shadow reduction A transmitted light patch to enable easy positioning of the sample Excitation lasers of 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 638nm Homogeneous light sheet with a minimum thickness of 2um across 1/3 the field of view Zen acquisition software for compatibility with existing FMIC systems Ability to image tissues cleared with Clarity and PACT Ability to use the following objectives that are already present at NIEHS: W Plan APOCHROMAT 20X/1.0 UV VIS IR Clr Plan NEOFLUAR 20X/1.0 CORR This notice of intent is not a solicitation or request for quotes. Notwithstanding, any firm that believes it is capable of meeting NIEHS� requirement, as stated herein, may submit their corporate capabilities, which, if received by the response date of this announcement, may be considered.� Responses to this posting must be in writing and shall be emailed to Christopher Fisher at Christopher.fisher@nih.gov and are due by 1:00PM ET on May 29, 2020. �A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement in the future.
