- Description
- TECHNOLOGY/LICENSING OPPORTUNITYHigh Temperature Irradiation Resistant ThermocouplesOpportunity: Idaho National Laboratory (INL), managed and operated by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA), is offering the opportunity to enter into a license and/or collaborative research agreement to commercialize the High Temperature Irradiation Resistant Thermocouples technology.Description: Real-time temperature measurement is key to validation of irradiations. Specialized low-drift thermocouples for irradiation test, High Temperature Irradiation Resistant Thermocouples (HTIR-TCs) are being developed and commercialized as a Baseline Instrumentation Capability. HTIR-TCs are an innovative new sensor for a wide spectrum of industries.Applications: These thermocouples can be used in existing reactor fleet and advanced reactor pipeline and fuel cycles.Advantages: These thermocouples bring together the high temperature of the Type B thermocouple with the radiation tolerance of Type N and K. This technology fills the technology gap of temperature measurements during irradiations between 1100°C and 1700°C. They show improvement in lifetime and uncertainty of temperature measurements for irradiations.IP Status: US Patent Application No. 16/690,630, “High-Temperature, Irradiation-Resistant Thermocouple, Coaxial Thermocouple, and Related Methods,” BEA Docket No. BA-1086INL is seeking to license the above intellectual property to a company with a demonstrated ability to bring such inventions to the market. Exclusive rights in defined fields of use may be available. Please visit Technology Deployment’s website at https://inl.gov/inl-initiatives/technology-deployment for more information on working with INL and the industrial partnering and technology transfer process.Companies interested in learning more about this licensing opportunity should contact Kala Majeti at suryakala.majeti@inl.gov.
