Description
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) intends to issue, on a sole source basis, an award to The Boeing Company - Engineering Test & Technology. The project will focus primarily on developing analysis capability on blast responses of commercial graphite-epoxy composite aircraft subjected to internal explosion and the prioritized and selective enhancements for BlastDam on blast loading model, model for damage propagation due to pressure differential, graphical user interfaces for input, output, and analysis results. The revised and enhanced BlastDam analysis tool will also be verified and validated through other analysis tools and live fire test data. Additionally, Boeing technical support will also be provided during pre-test planning, test execution, and post-test documentation and analysis of DHS conducted commercial aircraft fuselage structures live fire testing. The main objective of this effort is to further enhance the PC-based fast-running BlastDam tool to provide the capability to analyze the blast responses of commercial graphite-epoxy composite aircraft subjected to internal explosion, enable more realistic and accurate prediction of blast damage and threshold charge weight due to commercial aircraft explosive threat scenarios and ensure usability in applying the tool for commercial aircraft explosive vulnerability assessment. The secondary objective is to provide technical support during pre-test planning, test execution, and post-test documentation and analysis of DHS conducted commercial aircraft fuselage structures live fire testing conducted in support of BlastDam development.
