- Description
- AFIT requires a high-resolution echelle spectrometer to conduct time resolved spectroscopy for molecular and atomic emission for the VIS and NIR spectrum. Time resolved spectra on the order of 10s of nanoseconds is also important, especially for studying the behavior of special nuclear materials in laser induced plasmas and to isolate the formation and dilution of peaks of interest in the spectra. Echelle based spectrometers have been proven to be preferred due to their high resolution, relatively broad bandwidth, and compact nature when compared to Czerny-Turner style spectrographs which can only offer such high resolutions for reduced spectral bandwidths. Reasonably high light throughput must also be maintained, particularly to observe the molecular emissions. Low light throughput echelles will not be sufficient. This specification lists the minimum requirements for the high voltage pulse generator: Size: The spectrometer must be transportable for use on different laser tables and should have compact form no larger than 550 x 400 x 250 mm, not including external devices. Style: The spectrometer must have an echelle style grating system to maximize diffractive capability over a broad range of wavelengths while maintaining a small form factor. Robustness: The spectrometer must be easily moved and installed and be withstand operating environments from 15-30 C and storage environments from 0-50 C. iCCD Camera: The system must include fully compatible iCCD capable of a) gate widths of 10 ns or less, gate delay range of 0-5 s, 1024x1024 minimum imaging array, built-in, software controlled digital delay generator. Resolution: The system should be able to achieve a resolving power of at least 7,000 λ/Δλ simultaneously across the entire spectral range of 350-1100 nm. Control System: The system must include all hardware, firmware, software, and computer systems needed for operation. Light Throughput: must have a minimum 30 mm aperture stop, with a F/4 rating. Documentation: Full documentation for maintaining, operating, and repairing the system, including all control software, must be included. Updates: Future software updates will be made available to AFIT as they become available free of additional charges. Installation Support: The spectrograph must include a complete user guide for all operations must be included. Two days of on-site installation and training support by a qualified technician must be included.
