Description
***REQUEST FOR INFORMATION*** ***If you are viewing this announcement through any link other than FAA Contract Opportunities (FAACO) website (https://faaco.faa.gov), please visit this site to ensure that you are viewing the full announcement, amendments, attachments and instructions. ¯ Vendors are responsible for monitoring this website for updates to this announcement.*** Request for information (RFI) regarding methods and guidance for small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) mounted sensor technologies to supplement airport pavement inspections Any confidential or proprietary information submitted in response to this announcement must be marked accordingly by the vendor. Such information will not be disclosed outside of the acquisition team. The FAA ™s Airport Technology Research and Development Branch (ATRD) is currently conducting research on how to enable the safe, reliable, and effective integration of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) and sensor technologies into the airport environment to conduct airport pavement management program inspections. Airfield pavement inspection assists airports with finding optimum strategies for maintaining pavements in a safe serviceable condition over a given period for the least cost. This is especially important since approximately 70% of Airport Improvement Program grants allocated each year are invested in airfield pavements. There have been several attempts in recent years of companies and airport operators using sUAS to conduct various types of pavement imaging and inspections at airports. These activities have included proof-of-concept demonstrations involving the use of various types of UAS platforms, sensors and procedures. To build off of these promising developments, ATRD plans to conduct research in cooperation with industry partners to develop procedures and technical specifications for UAS platform(s) and sensor(s) used to conduct sUAS airport pavement inspections. The FAA is requesting information on your organization ™s experience with conducting sUAS based pavement inspections. This includes, but is not limited to: sUAS platforms and mounted sensor technologies that your organization has tested for pavement inspections; locations where testing took place; what does your organization consider state-of-the-art sUAS platform/sensor technologies (using commercial off the shelf equipment) to conduct pavement inspections? what does your organization see as potential emerging sUAS platform/sensor technologies for conducting pavement inspections; and recommendations with how to approach this research effort based on lessons learned from your testing? This request is for information only. This is not a Call for White Papers or a Request For Proposals. The FAA will not pay for any information received or costs incurred in preparing responses to this RFI. Therefore, any cost associated with this RFI is solely at the vendor ™s expense. This RFI closes November 15, 2019 at 5:00 PM EST If you're viewing this announcement from a source other than Federal Aviation Administration Contract Opportunities (FAACO), visit https://faaco.faa.gov/index.cfm/announcement/view/35044 to view the original announcement.
