- Description
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Solar Wind Plasma Sensor (SWiPS) for the Space Weather Follow On (SWFO - L1) Mission. The SWFO - L1 Mission is a high priority joint undertaking by NASA and the Department of the Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The SWFO - L1 Observatory will provide NOAA with the continuity of solar wind data and coronal mass ejection (CME) imagery, which is the National Weather Service's highest priority for space weather observations. The SWiPS instrument will be part of the SWFO - L1 satellite. The instrument will measure the ion flux population with or without mass discrimination as a function of energy.
