Description
J&A gun boat model for PI Museum The Parris Island Museum has identified a requirement for a scale model of Jefferson Gunboat #164. The model is part of the museum's development of its Local History/Early Marine Corps exhibit area and will be used to inform recruits and visitors about the role of the Marines in the War of 1812 and activities of the gunboats and their Marine guards in the waters of South Carolina. The model shall conform to the plan of Gunboat #164, available from the Naval Heritage Center, with information found in Howard Chappelle's The History of the American Sailing Navy, and be fabricated to scale in durable materials and in a craftsman-like manner. The model will conform to the following specifications made at 1/48th scale. The model will be made of wood at 1/48th scale. The model will accurately reflect the entire vessel from keel to truck, with attention to the ship's configuration, rigging, color, and armament. The model to be supported on pedestals and mounted on finished wooden bases. The model will, with minor alterations, conform to the model of Gunboat 156 (a sister ship of Gunboat 164) which was procured for the National Museum of the United States Navy through the American Marine Model Gallery www.shipmodel.com. Contractor will work with the Parris Island Museum staff and consult all needed documents and experts to authenticate the model. Contractor will supply all labor, materials, and shipping. The only vendor found with plans for the Jefferson Gunboat 164 1812 era was The American Marine Model Gallery Inc.
