Description
The U.S. Geological Survey Woods Hole Coastal & Marine has a requirement for an acoustic navigation and communication instrument and compatible battery charger. The required item is to collect precisely located marine sediment cores. In order to accurately locate and monitor the coring system during each deployment, a deepwater capable acoustic navigation and SMS (Sonardyne messaging service) communication transponder is required. This instrument will provide real-time information about the 3D position of the corer which will allow for accurate data collection in complicated seafloor environments while providing information on system health. Equipment should meet or exceed the following specifications: - 5000 m rated, multi-frequency directional transducer, supporting a variety of positioning functions with a range resolution of better than 15 mm - Supports short messaging service (SMS) communication, with transmission of configurable messages to the topside system. - Low power system with internal battery and external power capability - Associated battery charger is fully compatible with instrument All interested firms shall submit a response demonstrating their capabilities to perform the requested service to the primary contact below. Firms responding should indicate whether their socioeconomic status (e.g. small business, service disabled veteran, woman/women owned, HUBZone, etc.). The Government's evaluation of the capabilities of respondents will factor into whether the forthcoming solicitation will be conducted using full and open competition or as a set-aside for small businesses or small business designation. This requirement is expected to result in the award of a firm-fixed price contract. This acquisition is a total small business set-aside. The NAICS code is 334511. The size standard is 1,250 employees. Any information submitted by respondents to this source sought synopsis is voluntary. This source sought notice is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor will the Government reimburse any costs associated with the submission of information in responses to this notice.
