- Description
- The Contractor shall provide supervision, labor, material, and equipment required to perform all work for the following project: Set up staging and remove various panels and plates plus insulation. Reinstall all panels plates and insulation upon completion of inspection. Remove all staging. All work shall be done in a manner to provide a complete, usable and finished end product. The Contractor shall build scaffolding at building 1275 at Newport Naval Base. The Contractor shall also remove, where marked on the detailed drawings, steel plates, steel grating, and a portion of refractory concrete thermal lining insulation to expose concrete so that government employees will have access to core and inspect the exposed concrete. All steel plates, steel grating, and refractory concrete thermal lining insulation shall be reinstalled, with refractory concrete thermal lining requiring new materials to replace what is removed, including new anchors described in drawings. If removed steel plates, hanger rods, nuts, or washers are deemed by government employees as requiring replacement due to corrosion or other damage, new steel plates, stainless steel rods, and stainless steel nuts and washers shall be provided to match thickness and dimensions of original materials being replaced. No such replacement is anticipated; it is anticipated that all steel materials can be reinstalled with existing hanger rods, nuts, and washers. All erected scaffolding shall be left in place for the government employees to access and complete their work. The Contractor shall work simultaneously with, and coordinate with, the government employees because all work must be completed within five (5) days as these areas are mission essential and need to be back in operation within one (1) week. Room 9. Erect scaffolding in (2) areas to a height that will allow government employees to view and sound ceiling slab and to view above steel plate lining panels with sufficient headroom to work on top of scaffolding (within 5 of ceiling, approximately 30 ft. high). See drawing for locations. Remove (16) steel panels (4) each in (4) separate areas in the ceiling. Do not removing existing refractory concrete thermal lining insulation behind steel plates. Original drawings do not indicate Padgenite insulation boards behind the steel panels. If any Padgenite insulation boards are behind the steel panels (not anticipated), remove those by removing the screws and setting insulation boards aside in order to expose the structural concrete behind. Because of the weight and number of steel panels being removed, determine if they can be left on the scaffolding or if they shall be rigged and lowered to the ground and placed in a structurally sound area. The area below where the scaffolding will be placed is grating and, according to the original structural drawings, can support a live load of 100 pounds per square foot. Ceiling steel plates weigh approximately 100 pounds apiece and scaffolding needs to support the weight of plates and people working on them and the scaffolding loads on the permanent grating below, including self weight of scaffolding, personnel, plates, and tools, cannot exceed the grating capacity. Remove (2) steel wall plates at bottom of the east wall, the 5th and 6th panels from the northeast corner of room (panels are approximately 8 x 34 x thick.) Leave scaffolding in place for government employees use. Remove top wall steel plate panel at east wall (4th from northeast corner of room) in order to repair hook that is too short. Weld extender plate to the existing hook, or replace the existing hook with a longer hook that has the same width and thickness, so that wall panel fully seats on hook after reinstallation. Reinstall all removed Padgenite boards (if any) and steel panels after coring and inspection are complete. Remove scaffolding. Room 1: If necessary for plate removal but not needed for government employees, erect scaffolding to a height suitable for removing and reinstalling ceiling steel plate liners (approximately 5 ft. to 8 ft.). If steel plate liners can be removed and reinstalled using ladders instead of scaffolding, then no scaffolding is required. Remove 4 steel plates to expose ceiling for inspection. Remove bottom wall steel plate panel to expose concrete wall. Remove 2nd wall panel from the right side of the west wall (northwest corner of room). See attachment 1 First Floor plan. Reinstall all removed steel panels after coring and inspection are complete. Room 2: If necessary for plate removal but not needed for government employees, erect scaffolding to a height suitable for removing and reinstalling ceiling steel plate liners (approximately 5 ft. to 8 ft.). If steel plate liners can be removed and reinstalled using ladders instead of scaffolding, then no scaffolding is required. Remove 4 steel plates to expose ceiling for inspection. Remove bottom wall steel plate panel to expose concrete wall. Remove 4th wall panel from the right side of the south wall (southwest corner of room). See attachment 1 First Floor Plan. Reinstall all removed steel panels after coring and inspection are complete. Room 3: If necessary for plate removal but not needed for government employees, erect scaffolding to a height suitable for removing and reinstalling ceiling steel plate liners (approximately 5 ft. to 8 ft.). If steel plate liners can be removed and reinstalled using ladders instead of scaffolding, then no scaffolding is required. Remove 4 steel plates to expose ceiling for inspection. Remove bottom wall steel plate panel to expose concrete wall. Remove 4th wall panel from the right side of the east wall (southeast corner of room). See attachment 1 First Floor Plan. Reinstall all removed steel panels after coring and inspection are complete. Room 4: If necessary for plate removal but not needed for government employees, erect scaffolding to a height suitable for removing and reinstalling ceiling steel plate liners (approximately 5 ft. to 8 ft.). If steel plate liners can be removed and reinstalled using ladders instead of scaffolding, then no scaffolding is required. Remove 4 steel plates to expose ceiling for inspection. Remove bottom wall steel plate panel to expose concrete wall. Remove 2nd wall panel from the left side of the east wall (northeast corner of room). See attachment 1 First Floor Plan. Reinstall all removed steel panels after coring and inspection are complete. Rooms 5, 6, 7, and 8: Remove one wall panel from each room to expose wall. See attachment 1 Second Floor Plan for locations. Reinstall all removed steel plates after coring and inspection are complete. Room 7: Remove 24 x 24 portion of existing refractory concrete thermal lining from ceiling at location and in manner indicated in attachment 1 Second Floor Plan. After inspection is complete, provide new refractory concrete thermal lining to patch the 24 x 24 area as required in attachment 1 Second Floor Plan, including new anchors, new stainless steel wire, and new gun-applied refractory concrete. Third Floor: Remove floor grating at locations indicated in attachment 1 Third Floor Plan to allow access for coring top of concrete slab. After coring and patching are complete, reinstall floor grating pieces.
