Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Agilent Technologies, Inc. for Fragment Analyzer Automated Electrophoresis System. This product is able to load and analyze up to 3 96-well sample plates (288 samples) without user intervention or additional robotics required; has continuous LED illumination of capillaries and continuous uninterrupted detection of fluorescent signal through a CCD detector; changes sample plates without need for stopping in-progress instrument operations, sizing accuracy less than or equal to 5% and precision less than or equal to 2%; data analysis software capable of sizing, quantification, smear analysis, and integrity determination with automated report generations, among other characteristics. Other products are available that can separately quantify or size nucleic acid fragments but no other product can do both sizing and quantification with acceptable accuracy and precision and no other considered product has the capacity to run so many samples at a time, cutting down on technician time and human error. All these characteristics make it a sole source. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1).
