Description
Milstar VME CAPCU (Contingency Antenna Position Control Unit) Power Supply Circuit Card Assemblies as follows: Purchase new NSN: 5998-01-473-8243, 4 each NSN: 5998-01-473-8244, 6 each NSN: 5998-01-473-8245, 15 each These 3 cards are: an input rectifier/filter and control circuits contained on a single VME circuit card assembly, hereinafter referred to as the Rectifier CCA; three (3) independently regulated DC to DC regulator assemblies contained on a single VME circuit card assembly, hereinafter referred to as the Antenna CCA; three (3) independently regulated DC to DC regulator assemblies contained on a single VME circuit card assembly, hereinafter referred to as the Multivolt CCA. Raytheon source control drawing is available H294350. The Milstar System Program office Contracted Raytheon to re-design the Milstar CAPCU which resulted in the new VME CAPCU. Raytheon contracted HDL Research Lab, Inc. to re-design the power supply CCAs. The government did not procure the re-design level data required to manufacture or repair the VME CCAs. VME CAPCU is an integral and essential part of the Milstar system. Without the proper operation of this assembly, the system would effectively be off line and the command post would be in a MICAP situation, unable to fulfill its assigned mission. Milstar terminals provide secure jam-resistant, voice, data, and teletype communications for the la IMPORTANCE OF SYSTEM: The Milstar system is the primary survivable communication system for the U.S. military. Milstar provides command, control, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and support communications for the National Command Authorities (NCA), the Commanders-In-Chief (CINCs), NATO Allied nations, the Services, and other government agencies through all levels of conflict as well as worldwide operational support communications. It provides mobile, reliable, jam-resistant, and secure communications for command and control of both strategic and tactical forces. It is the war fighting backbone of the DoD Military Satellite Communications. Milstar is the primary means for Emergency Action Messages (EAM) traffic, Commander-in-Chief Networks (CINCNETs), and command and control of US military forces and used by Joint Services Commander's) in Chief (CINC) including, USSPACECOM, AFSPC, PACOM, CENTCOM, SOCOM, SPACECOM, ACOM, EUCOM, SOUTHCOM, TRANSCOM, and STRATCOM. The Milstar program is rated as Force Activity Designator (FAD) I. FAD I is the highest national priority as designated by the President and Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and is based on Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) recommendations. It reflects how essential a unit or program is to the overall DoD missions. nd, air and naval operations. The Milstar VME CAPCU is an electronic assembly that provides the digital signal processing and analog stabilization electronics required for rate stabilization and pointing control of the Milstar contingency terminal antenna. Built-In Test (BIT) circuitry and dc power supplies are included in the antenna drive. The antenna drive develops antenna position control voltages and provides rate stabilization of the pedestal. Operation of the antenna drive and the Contingency Antenna/Pedestal Assembly (CA/PA) is monitored by BIT circuitry in the antenna drive. The antenna drive uses primary ac power to generate dc power for itself and the CA/PA. Digital pointing data and antenna drive operating mode commands are provided by the digital computer CP-1837/U. Operating modes include pointing, search, stop, initialize track, continue track, coast track, and off-line test. Rate information from the CA/PA is used by the antenna drive to stabilize the pedestal. The VME CAPCU is a nuclear survivable design. It is essential to preserve the hardness of these components during maintenance so that hardened design is not degraded.
