Description
Page 2 of 2 This is a Sources Sought notice. This is NOT a solicitation for proposals, proposal abstracts, or quotations. The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding the availability and capability of all qualified sources to perform a potential requirement. Purpose and Objectives: Your responses to the information requested will assist the Government in determining the appropriate acquisition method. NAICS code: 611430 and size standard is $11M. NOTE: Respondent claiming SDVOSB and VOSB status must be registered and CVE verified in VetBiz Registry www.vetbiz.gov. Project requirements: This requirement is for Aviso Ultrasound system IOL CALCULATIONS FOR REFRACTIVE CATARACT SURGERY training at the VAMC. Target group: Up to 20 Ophthalmic Assistants/Technicians/Technologists/Nurses/Cataract Surgeons. 8-hour training from 8:00am through 5:30pm with a lunch break. Vendor will provide an 8-hour program using lecture, power point presentation, video demonstration, live demonstration, handouts, question and answer, and a hands-on session on available Memphis VAMC equipment for up to 20 participants. The training will be accredited by the Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). Each participant will receive 8 JCAHPO credit hours (towards maintenance of certification required by VA). The IOL Calculations training will cover Refractive States/Standard Dimensions, IOLs, Constants, Calculation Formulas, Keratometry/Toric Calculations, Optical Biometry, Ultrasound Principles/Spike Patterns/Machine Settings, Immersion Technique/Pathology/Silicone Oil, High Myopia/B-Scan Biometry/Post-Refractive Surgery Calculations. The hands-on portion will cover both optical and ultrasound biometry on equipment at the VAMC Eye Clinic. The B-Scan Ultrasound course will cover ultrasound principles, machine settings, proper probe positioning and labeling, techniques for scanning localized pathology as well as techniques for screening the entire globe in an eye with opaque media, UBM anterior segment scanning techniques, and has an extensive section on interpretation of images found in both the anterior and posterior segments. The hands-on portion will cover techniques of posterior segment and anterior segment scanning on equipment at the VAMC Eye Clinic. The Course Description: Accurate axial eye length measurements and IOL calculations are essential in any practice where cataract or refractive lensectomy is performed. Knowledge of the principles of intraocular lenses and their constants, modern formulas, keratometry, ultrasound principles and measurements, and optical biometry principles and measurements is vital to meet the demands of today s patients. Accurate techniques for both immersion ultrasound and optical biometry will be presented, as well as recognition of common errors. Current recommended IOL calculation formulae, standardization of keratometry, toric calculations, and the handling of challenging ocular situations such as high myopia, macular pathology, and post-refractive surgery calculations will be discussed at length. The hands-on workshop will cover both optical and immersion biometry with students asked to volunteer as patients for each other. The instructional objectives include: Explain the basic principles of ultrasound and optical biometry. Describe how to perform accurate immersion ultrasound and optical biometry. Describe how to perform accurate immersion ultrasound and optical biometry. Identify the most common errors in biometry, and how they can be avoided. Evaluate the quality of scans obtained with ultrasound and optical coherence. Describe how to best standardize keratometry in their practice. Describe how to perform biometry and lens calculations in challenging ocular situations such as high myopia, staphylomata, macular disease, and post-refractive surgery patients. Describe the intraocular lens constant and the various formulae recommended for calculating intraocular lens power for varying axial lengths. Describe toric IOL calculations and the measurements needed, as well as the most current recommendations for best patient care. Anticipated period of performance: 22 February 2019. Information sought: Response to this announcement shall not exceed 10 pages and should include the following information: (1) A tailored capability statement indicating the firm s ability to provide a product and related services; (2) The respondents DUNS number, organization name, address, point of contact, and size and type of business (e.g., SDVOSB/VOSB, etc,) pursuant to the applicable NAICS code; (3) Information should be provided electronically in a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format. Please e-mail your response with the above information to Christina.Smith7@va.gov with the subject line Sources Sought Notice # 36C24919Q0055 by 5:00pm on 06 December 2018.
