- Description
- JOFOC NASA GRC is procuring a Non-rechargeable Molten Salt Battery for NASA Venus LLISSE. This effort encompasses the development of a prototype thermal battery design and hardware deliverables to support integrated system level testing of the Long-Lived In-Situ Solar System Explorer (LLISSE) project. The estimated period of performance for delivery is 9 months ARO. This purchase request is for the procurement of 1/6 scale thermal batteries for self-discharge assessment, full-scale single electrode assemblies to verify manufacturability issues, and a full-scale prototype thermal battery. The goal of the LLISSE mission is to land a probe on the surface of Venus with a duration lasting up to 60 Earth days. The primary thermal battery provides the electrical power for the Venus probe and is a critical subsystem for the success of the mission. JOFOC is attached.
