Description
FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ANNOUNCEMENT: SPECIAL NOTICE CLASSIFICATION CODE: 66 - Instruments and Laboratory Equipment SUBJECT: Single Axis Manipulators CONTACT POINTS: Gizabi, Sedigah, Contract Specialist (301) 975-8429; Joni Laster, Contracting Officer (301) 975-6205 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole-source basis, with Thermionics Northwest, INC., under the authority of FAR Part 13.106-1(b), for the procurement of two single axis manipulators with synchronous motor and controller to be used by NIST Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML), in Gaithersburg, MD. ***** The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires ultra-high vacuum single axis vacuum translators to set up a scanning probe microscopy (SPM) lab at NIST. This lab will be identical to an existing SPM lab at NIST and will share equipment between the two laboratories. The manipulators must be identical and interchangeable with the existing translators. In the event of a failure, this compatibility will allow the users to use existing spare parts and interchange components to maintain in-vacuum positioning and alignment which is required in critical experiments. Interchangeability requires that motors, motor controllers, and electrical connections be identical. Thermionics is uniquely qualified to meet the compatibility and interchangeability requirements as they are the original equipment manufacturers of the existing equipment currently in use in the SPM lab at NIST. ***** The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition 334515 - Instrument Manufacturing for Measuring and Testing Electricity and Electrical Signals. ***** A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. *****No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for quotations. Interested parties that believe they can satisfy the requirements listed above must identify their capability in writing before the response date of this notice. Only responses received by 10/29/2018, 10:00 a.m., EST will be considered by the government. Responses shall be submitted via email to sedigah.gizabi@nist.gov or joni.laster@nist.gov.
