- Description
- Amendment 2 Conformed Copy Amendment 2 with Track Changes Responses to Questions Objective of this RFI Based on its experience as a user of cloud services and through the Big Data Project, NOAA is seeking one or more contractual arrangements that would allow it to place a significant portion of its data in one or more cloud platforms, for use by the public. Such use could be in the form of egress or cloud-based processing and analytics. NOAA seeks to host data on cloud platforms in a sustained, operational manner to enable easier discoverability and access, allowing the untapped value of NOAA's data to be realized through the generation of novel products and services. NOAA is also interested in learning how these data stores may complement and enable future NOAA mission-related cloud usage, including but not limited to high-performance computing and product generation. In order to inform the future direction of the BDP, this RFI seeks direct input and feedback from all users of the data on their experience accessing NOAA's open data through one or more of the five BDP Collaborators' cloud platforms. In general, NOAA's OCIO is requesting information as to whether accessing the data in this manner is beneficial, and if so, the details on these benefits. Input is requested from the public, academia, researchers, and industry on the value of the access to the data through the Collaborators and the value of providing open access to the data. In addition, information is requested that particularly pertains to any business growth or contributions to new business services or new technology and scientific development related to accessing NOAA's data. NOAA will use this feedback to: 1) understand end user needs; and 2) understand the impact of NOAA data in the marketplace. Responses from this RFI will be compiled and made publicly available.
