- Description
- The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has a Request For Information (RFI) regarding Bed Unloading/Loading Conveyor System (BUCS) for transporting parcels/sacks from a trailer bed into the processing facility and from the facility into bed load transportation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION The Bed Unloading/Loading Conveyor System (BUCS) will be standalone alone system that has two main components: An ergonomic unload and load station where an operator can work moving packages and sacks from the trailer to a conveyor (unload) or from the conveyor to an orderly stack within the trail (load). A transport conveyor that shall transport packages and sacks to/from the ergonomic unload/load station. This transport conveyor shall be constructed in such a manner as to compress or telescope so that the total unit length when not in use, or when starting to work on a trailer, is minimized. The outer end of the transport conveyor shall be furnished with short section of conveyor that can either be raised to flow product into a container or other conveyor (when in unload mode) or lowered to allow product to be placed or unloaded onto it (when in load mode). Bed Unloading/Loading Conveyor System (BUCS) Requirements: - Interaction with staging areas - Useable in existing USPS facilities - Relocatable along the dock or to another dock within the facility - If the Bed Unloading/Loading Conveyor System (BUCS) requires any modification to the dock floor or any other structure for stability or other reasons, the supplier shall provide all necessary components and parts for that modification - Accommodate up to a 53 foot trailer bed - Must not damage packages - Capable of handling all USPS package volume types and sizes The BUCS must be capable of use within existing USPS facilities and USPS docking areas. All electrical connections shall be furnished with the capability of allowing relocation. The BUCS must be able to be relocated between USPS docks within 30 minutes and be ready to unload/load trailer beds at that point. The BUCS must be able to extend and accommodate up to a 53-foot truck trailer bed. The BUCS must not damage any package mail and must use conveyor sections that have smooth transitions to not damage packages. The BUCS must be capable of handling USPS package types, sizes and weights from smallest to largest including but not limited to: - Small packages 3.5" x 3" x.05" and 0.05 ounces in weight - Large packages 28" x 30" x 60" and up to 70 lbs. in weight - All mix variations of mail including odd shapes and rolls
