Description
Fitness equipment that will meet the new requirement in Field Manual (FM) 7-22 for the Army Combat Fitness/Readiness Test (ACRT) for training on the ten components of physical fitness: Power, Speed, Agility, Balance, Coordination, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Aerobic Endurance, Flexibility, and Reaction Time. Soldiers stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska - including 4,607 Soldiers assigned to 1/25 SBCT - endure some of the harshest winter conditions of any post in the Army, with winter temperatures commonly dipping below- 40 F. Army regulations require Soldiers to be physically fit at all times. Physical fitness is directly tied to a unit's readiness and its ability to accomplish its wartime mission. Conducting physical fitness during winter months poses several hazards and risks. USARAK Policy #0-14 states Version - February 2017 Page 2 of 5 Source Selection Information See FAR 2.101 and 3.104 that at temperatures of below -25F, units should conduct short runs or alternate forms of aerobic exercise, which ates the requirement for indoor physical fitness facilities. There are currently two indoor physical fitness facilities on Fort Wainwright, however the installation has a sixty-t,housand square feet deficit of combat readiness training facility space and forty five-thousand deficit of indoor running track space to support its population. During periods of severe cold in the winter months, these facilities become extremely crowded during PT hours, making it nearly impossible to conduct effective strength or cardiovascular training. To address this deficiency, 1/25 SBCT has submitted a request through the Defense Logistics Agency to purchase cardiovascular and strength training
