- Equipment Statement of Work (SOW) 1. Background The VANJHCS Neurobehavioral Research Laboratory requires a mouse behavioral testing system. The testing system (herein referred to as system ) requires the capability of automated multi-test-chambers to be fed into a single command/control/data acquisition computer. The system must include the following: Included desktop computer configured to operate the system as specified with the requirement. Computer software that has command/control and data acquisition capabilities for the test chambers. Provides interfacing links between the computer and, at least, four modular test chambers. System needs to be able to provide food pellets in response to lever-presses in the test chambers using a pellet-feeder. System needs to be able to provide intermittent shock to the grid floor of the test chambers via a shock generator. System needs to be able to provide control over shock presentation via the lever located in the chambers. Each chamber needs to be able to provide intermittent sound stimuli to the mouse (controlled by the command/control computer). Each chamber needs to be able to provide intermittent visual stimuli to the mouse (controlled by the command/control computer). Each modular test chamber should include a house-light for ambient lighting. Each test chamber needs to be separately housed in a sound-attenuating isolation box. All necessary input-output cables from the computer to the interface to the modular test chambers. 2. Objectives The purpose of the system is to provide a means to conduct several types of learning and memory tests. Specifically, the system chambers are to be fitted with ancillary modules that allow for both positive reinforcement (using food reward) and negative reinforcement (removal of aversive shock) when a correctly timed lever-press occurs. The timing is monitored by the command-control computer and is cued with flashing lights and auditory tones. The mice need to be able to learn which cues should trigger the lever-press behavior. 3. Period of Performance The contractor shall complete the work required under this SOW in 15 calendar days or less from date of award, unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). If the contractor proposes an earlier completion date, and the Government accepts the contractor s proposal, the contractor s proposed completion date shall prevail. The work shall begin within 15 calendar days of award, unless otherwise specified. Work at the Government site shall not take place on Federal holidays or weekends unless directed by the CO. 4. Place of Performance / Place of Delivery VA New Jersey Health Care System 385 Tremont Avenue Building 7 Room B-160E East Orange, NJ 07018 5. Scope or Tasks (for services) The Vendor will supply a system that meets the following specifications: Includes a desktop computer configured to operate the system as specified with the requirement. Provides computer software, with future upgrades, that has command/control and data acquisition capabilities for the test chambers. Includes interfacing links between the computer and the modular test chambers and the shock-producing interfaces. Includes at least four modular test chambers Each chamber should have: A houselight A speaker A cue light A lever A food pellet dispenser Both shock and non-shock grid floors Each chamber should have the capability to: Present ambient lighting Present intermittent auditory stimuli Present intermittent visual stimuli Present mice inside the chamber with food pellets Present intermittent footshock Includes a separate sound-attenuating isolation box for each test chamber. Includes all necessary input-output cables from the computer to the interface to the modular test chambers. 6.Government-Furnished Property, Material, Equipment, or Information (GFP, GFM, GFE, or GFI) There is no GFP, GFM, GFE, or GFI. 7. Security All contractor employees who require access to the Department of Veterans Affairs computer systems shall be the subject of a background investigation and must receive a favorable adjudication from the VA Office of Security and Law Enforcement prior to contract performance. This requirement is applicable to subcontractor personnel requiring the same access. Position Sensitivity The position sensitivity has been designated as Low-Risk. Background Investigation The level of background investigation commensurate with the required level of access is not necessary. 8. Safety Codes / Certification / Licensing NA 9. Warranty/Maintenance No less than three years parts and labor warranty. 10. Special Material Requirements This acquisition must meet the following specifications: A desktop computer configured to operate the system as specified with the requirement. Computer software, with future upgrades, that has command/control and data acquisition capabilities for the test chambers. Interfacing links between the computer and the modular test chambers and the shock-producing interfaces. At least four modular chambers, for mice, to be included as the test chambers for the system. Each chamber should have: A houselight A speaker A cue light A lever A food pellet dispenser Both shock and non-shock grid floors Each chamber should have the capability to: Present ambient lighting Present intermittent auditory stimuli Present intermittent visual stimuli Present mice inside the chamber with food pellets Present intermittent footshock Includes a separate sound-attenuating isolation box for each test chamber. Includes all necessary input-output cables from the computer to the interface to the modular test chambers. 11. Personnel Working under this Purchase Order: No personnel will work under the order. The order is for equipment. 12. Any Other Requirements unique to the solicitation. The specifications as described above must be exact to ensure scientific validity, performance, and completion of the project.
