Description
This notice is not a solicitation. This announcement serves as a sources sought notice for a precision linear translation stage for the Air Force Academy. This Sources Sought Notice is issued for the purpose of market research in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 10 to determine if there is a precision linear translation stage that meet the specifications below and the Buy American Act at DFARS 225.225-7001. All businesses capable of providing a precision linear translation stage are invited to respond. Any information provided by industry to the Government as a result of this sources sought synopsis is voluntary. The Government will not pay for any information submitted in response to this sources sought synopsis. 10 CONS/ PKC is seeking potential sources who manufacture a precision linear translation stage that are Buy American compliant IAW DFARS 252.225-7001 are considered commercially off-the-shelf items (COTS). The applicable NAICS Code is 334519. The size standard is 500 employees. All items and components must be made and manufactured in accordance with DFARS 252-225-7001, Buy American Act and Balance of Payments Program. U.S. Air Force Academy precision linear translation stage requirements: The Physics Department has a requirement to purchase a precision linear motorized translation stage controlled by an electronic driver. The stage will be used in the construction of an apparatus for fabricating tapered optical fibers with taper diameters less than 1 µm. Cadets and faculty will use the system to produce these sub-micron-diameter fibers in order to conduct multiple novel experiments in basic photonics and lasers research in the Lasers and Optics Research Center at USAFA. As detailed in the specifications below, the required stage must have an on-axis accuracy at the micron level and positional repeatability at the sub-micron level; this precision is necessary to reproducibly manufacture the tapered fibers. To ensure that the stage exhibits this on-axis accuracy and positional repeatability and is free from vibration, it must be mounted to a granite slab of flatness less than 0.00015". The top, moving surface of the stage should include threaded holes for mounting standard optical components. The electronic driver that controls the motions of the stage should be programmable and remotely operable by LabVIEW computer software. A driver module card is required to enable interfacing between the driver and the computer to control each translation axis. DFP recently purchased a linear stage and controller mounted to a granite slab, and the addition of a second stage would give us the ability to perform bi-directional pulling of optical fibers. The current stage to be procured must mount to the existing granite slab and be controlled by the existing government-owned Newport XPS controller/driver system. The detailed requirements for the precision translation stage include: - Travel range 210mm - Centered load capacity 300 N - Maximum continuous force 37N - Minimum incremental linear motion 0.001 µm - On-axis accuracy ±1.5 µm - Bi-directional repeatability ±0.04 µm - Uni-direction repeatability 0.05 µm - Maximum speed 300 mm/s - Compliance in roll 0.5 wad/N·m - Compliance in yaw 1.0 µrad/N·m - Compliance in pitch 2.0 µrad/N·m - Pitch ±50 µrad - Yaw ±50 µrad - Straightness, flatness ±l.50 µm - Thread type M4 and M6 - Approximate size 14"x 7"x 3 " Quantity: 1 Delivery is FOB Destination to USAF Academy, CO 80840. Comments and/or suggestions on the specifications are encouraged and can be included in your capabilities package. Interested businesses shall provide the following information: 1. Company name, mailing address, cage code, DUNS number, point of contact, telephone number and email address. 2. Business size status in relationship to the small business threshold of 750 employees and socio-economic status, e.g., 8(a), Woman Owned or Service Disabled Veteran-Owned, small business, large business, etc. 3. Answers to the following questions: (include questions below as applicable, otherwise delete. Add any questions specific to the acquisition not included below). a. Are you a manufacturer or supplier of the items? b. What is your lead-time for delivery for each item? c. What are your payment/discount terms? d. What are the term of your warranty? This notice is designed to locate responsible sources that have an interest, and have the ability to supply the items described herein. Responsible vendors who are interested may contact, Ms. Leila Bussey at 719-333-8203 or email leila.bussey@us.af.mil or Ms. Susan Hashemi, Contracting Officer at 719-333-8059 or email susan.hashemi@us.af.mil by 12 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time, 31 August 2018.
