Scope and Need: The Tomah VA Medical Center pharmacy department is requesting purchase of an OUTPATIENT automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) for medications. The provider would enter a secure code onto a secure website and is then given a code for the patient to take to the dispenser. The patient then enters the code into the machine and the medications are dispensed. The machine is connected to the network and the telephone system. The equipment must work with the VA network & be cleared by OI&T. The Tomah VA Medical Center pharmacy department is requiring this procurement to improve access to necessary medications for Veterans seen in the Urgent Care and Outpatient Clinics after pharmacy business hours. Training of pharmacy and provider personnel would be required. Training for providers would include order entry. Training for pharmacy personnel would include packaging, stocking, general troubleshooting of the ADC. All outpatient pharmacy technicians, as well as several outpatient staff pharmacists and the Associate Chief of Pharmacy would attend training. (Total 10 staff from pharmacy). Provider staff would include the Urgent Care Supervisor (both provider and nursing-- total of 2 staff). Manuals for the ADC would be necessary to ensure consistent procedures. The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, supplies, materials, engineering design, and supervision to design, manufacture, and deliver this equipment. Design and delivery shall be coordinated with the Service Point of Contact Personnel. The Outpatient ADC is required to ensure that Veterans seen in the Urgent Care and Outpatient Clinics at the main Tomah VAMC campus have access to needed medications after normal pharmacy business hours. The Tomah VAMC Urgent Care is open from 7am to 7pm Monday-Friday, and from 7am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The outpatient pharmacy is not open on Saturday and Sunday, and closes before Urgent Care during the week. Tomah itself is a community of approximately 9,500 residents.
