- Description
- RFI 6HQOIG-18-A-0017 This is a Request for Information (RFI) and planning ONLY, and does not constitute a solicitation. See the attachment for RFI information and instructions. The United States is experiencing a shortage of truck drivers ("trucker shortage"), with some experts estimating that tens of thousands additional truckers would be needed to fully meet the nation's current transportation demands. Recent articles on this phenomenon have identified several key factors behind its shortage, including the willingness of younger workers to become truckers, the surge of e-commerce, and the public's evolving expectations for the speed of shipping. As this trucker shortage intensifies, it is likely to have significant effects on the U.S. economy, perhaps especially so for all actors along the shipping and delivery supply chain. The USPS OIG is interested in research on the trucker shortage and its potential implications for the U.S. Postal Service.
