Description

Scope Summary: Construct a new low conductivity water (LCW) system to separate components from a centralized Cooling Tower (CT) and optimize delivery of cooling loads. The system is at the end of useful life and is the only LCW cooling source for multiple science programs at SLAC and it presents a risk as it is setup as a single point of failure in case of a component going down. Furthermore, a full system shutdown would be required of multiple programs when performing maintenance to equipment or components. The project will redirect Low Conductivity Water (LCW) cooling loads currently served by the 1801 LCW cooling system to a newly fabricated LCW equipment skid ("SSRL equipment skid") supported by CT 404. The project will reconfigure and resize the 1801 LCW system and install a newly fabricated LCW equipment skid ("1801 equipment skid"). The new systems will replace the 14 LCW heat exchangers that are currently located in CT1701 basin and have either failed or are likely to fail in the near future and replace all outdated control systems, corroded piping, and end of life electrical systems. The project scope will also include completing tie-ins of the new equipment skids to the existing systems. Budget: Approx. Less than $5M Schedule: Approx. Start in November 2018 Approx.
