- RFI Requirements and Details The purpose of this announcement is to obtain market research for planning purposes only regarding chainsaw manufacturers who are capable of providing chainsaws for recreation and forest management operations which includes fire suppression operations, fuels treatment and timber management. Place of performance is nationwide. The US Forest Service manages an inventory of approximately 3,500 chainsaws in the National Interagency Support Cache (NISC) system. Roughly twice the number are managed by local units. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT INTEND TO AWARD A CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS NOTICE OR TO OTHERWISE PAY FOR THE INFORMATION SOLICITED. This notice does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or the authority to enter into negotiations to award a contract. No funds have been authorized, appropriated, or received for this contemplated effort. This notice is for planning purposes only and shall not be considered as a request for proposal or as an obligation on the part of the Government to acquire any products or services. No entitlement to payment of direct or indirect costs or charges by the Government will arise as a result of contractor submission of responses to this notice or the Government's use of such information. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any contractor's input resulting from this notice. Response to this notice will not be returned. Whatever information is provided may be utilized by the US Forest Service in developing its acquisition strategy and it's Statement of Work. The information resulting from this notice may be included/combined with other submissions in one or more options considered in the analysis of alternatives. Any proprietary information that is submitted may be used in establishing requirements but specific information will be safeguarded as proprietary. In the event that further development is needed, the development will be conducted under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). The CRADA process is separate from this RFI process. All requirements are contained in the attached RFI document. The information requested by this RFI shall be provided, via email or in writing, by close of business (4:30 p.m. Mountain Time) July 31, 2018 to the following address.
