Description
Below are questions that were asked about the Solicitation along with the corresponding answers. 1.Rack-mounted Server for Gluster/archive a.When the configuration mentions 10Gbe SFP+ Module, can you confirm these are SR transceivers? Answer: Yes b.When using the Xeon Scalable processors (ie 6134) we want to populate 6 or 12 dims per CPU. Using 16 DIMMs (8 per CPU) will reduce the potential bandwidth performance to about 37%. Can you move to maybe 12 x 32GB RDIMM? Answer: Yes c.I see there is a need for 5 x Pcie x8 and 3 x Pcie x16. Since we do not need x16 for the HBAS or the Internal RAID controller, will it be fine if we use just x8 and leave one free x16 slot? Answer: Yes d.Are the 6 x SAS HBAs going to be used to connect to the RAID units? Answer: Yes Will they need RAID? Answer: No. These are just simple host bus adapters. e.How many ports will each HBA need? Answer: 2 2.Storage for Archive Project a.The configuration mentions a RAID units but it looks like these are being connected to via SAS cables. Are these meant to be JBODs? Answer: No. If these are supposed to be just JBODs to the Gluster/archive server then we wouldn't need the 4GB Read/Write cache. Answer: These are not JBODs. b.If not, are these meant to be a NAS or SAN? What type of file system will you be loading on these units? Answer: None. The application will use raw block storage. 3.Rack-Mounted Servers (for CEPH) a.When the configuration mentions 10Gbe SFP+ Module, can you confirm these are SR transceivers? Answer: Yes 4.Are any brand name restrictions on the products that are being requested? Answer: There are no Brand name restrictions or preferences 5.Are partial quote would be acceptable? Answer: We are not accepting partial quotes. 6.Would it be possible to expand on your server and storage request? Machine type/model, part numbers would be helpful. Also, is there a preference between Dell or HPE? Answer: There is preference for a specific type/model. There is no preference between for a brand name. 7.Would you require onsite installation for the units or onsite physical repair? Answer: No; NCEI will perform onsite services. 8.For the (9) rack-mounted servers(for CEPH), do you want to have CEPH software preinstalled or is this RFQ solely for hardware purchasing and will later be configured by your IT staff? Answer: No; NCEI will perform all software (and hardware) installation 9.For the RAID units, do you have any preferred RAID configuration or OS? Answer: No; NCEI will be installing OS and reconfiguring the RAID regardless of how it is configured when shipped 10.Will the ship to address be the same as the contracting office address? (SSMC2 11th floor, 1325 east west high way, silver spring, Maryland 20910.) Answer: No. Please see the shipping address in the Solicitation 11.Do you have a preference with this request: HP, Lenovo, Cisco or something else? Answer: There are no Brand name restrictions or preferences 12. Do you have anything more specific (like server/storage models) for this request?" Answer: There are no Brand name restrictions or preferences 13.With Dell CTO system doesn't allow more than 2 SAS HBAs for a single server (you have 6 showing here) and Dell doesn't support more than 4 of the 60 drive expansions connected to a single server. Answer: Some HBAs may be shipped separately from the server chassis. As long as the chassis has the required number of PCI slots, and the additional HBAs will fit in the remaining slots, that is acceptable. We do not require that Dell support our desired configuration of 6 x 60 disk RAID units on a single server. Please be aware that "60 drive expansions" do not meet our requirements - we need RAID devices. 14.My engineers suggests that 6 external SAS HBA Cards on a single server is not a common requirement. So we may need to build this with a different manufacturer (reference questions 1.)" Answer: True, this is not a common requirement, but as the storage system is a direct replacement for a tape library, the server is not required to extract the maximum performance available from the RAIDs. It just has to be more responsive than tapes.
