Description
THIS IS A SPECIAL NOTICE ONLY TO PUBLICIZE THAT THE TRICK SIMULATION ENVIRONMENT SOFTWARE (TRICK) IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE PORTAL FOR NASA OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE. NO RESPONSES TO THIS SPECIAL NOTICE ARE REQUIRED. SPECIAL NOTICE: NASA Open Source Software - Trick Simulation Environment Software (Trick) The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC) is issuing this Special Notice as a means of publicizing that the Trick Simulation Environment Software (Trick) is released under the NASA Open Source Agreement Version 1.3 license. The Trick Simulation Environment Software (Trick), developed at the NASA Johnson Space Center, is a powerful simulation development framework that enables users to build applications for all phases of space vehicle development. Trick expedites the creation of simulations for early vehicle design, performance evaluation, flight software development, flight vehicle dynamic load analysis, and virtual/hardware in the loop training. Trick's purpose is to provide a common set of simulation capabilities that allow users to concentrate on their domain specific models, rather than simulation-specific functions like job ordering, input file processing, or data recording. NASA uses public, open source development repositories such as GitHub to host NASA open source software releases. Trick software is available at GitHub https://github.com/nasa/trick and will soon be available through the portal for NASA open source software at https://code.nasa.gov NASA uses open source to address project and mission needs, to accelerate software development, and to maximize public awareness and impact of our research. The NASA Open Source Agreement (NOSA) is an Open Source Initiative (OSI) approved license to allow public release of NASA-funded software. Part of NASA's charter (Space Act of 1958) is to "provide for the widest practical and appropriate dissemination of information concerning its activities and the results thereof." Open source directly addresses this by facilitating rapid and wide dissemination of software with minimal overhead and cost. NASA's use of open source has focuses on two types of software releases : Point release, which is infrequent release of completed software (subject to NPR 2210.1A) and Continuous release, which is on-going, frequent release of software under development within well-defined bounds and periodic review (subject to NPR 2210.1A).
