- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment NAS SIGONELLA ITALY 1.0Description 1.1The Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment is requesting information regarding the installation of bird netting and bird prevention measures as specified in the requirements below. 2.0Existing CCTV system description 2.1Building 546 on NAS 2 is currently equipped with bird spikes which are affixed to fire sprinkler system under the roof within the building 546 compound to prevent birds from landing. The current system is has not been effective because there are still many horizontal areas available for the birds to roost, and the spikes frequently fall off. The roof and the area under the roof have the following characteristics: -The roof is constructed of a corrugated sheet metal type material which leaves hundreds of gaps, approximately 4 inch by 6 inch, across the edges of the roof. -Many of the gaps along the roof edges have been covered with sheet metal, but there are still a large amount of holes that need to be covered. -There is a fire extinguishing system exposed underneath the roof, which is fully exposed and presents an opportunity for birds to roost and nest. The fire system is mounted to the roof and is hanging from the roof. There are bird spikes affixed to the fire system with ties and glue. -There is lighting that is also under the roof, affixed in a similar fashion as the fire extinguishing system, and also presents an opportunity for birds to roost and nest. -There are also horizontal items lower on the walls under the roof, which allow an opportunity for birds to roost and nest, which will also need a solution to prevent birds from landing. 2.2During the past years, given the bird infestation problem, there is a constant health hazard present for workers. The bird feces causes damage to equipment which is stored under the roof, and hundreds of hours are consumed every year in the performance of cleanup and feces removal in addition to the added maintenance that must be performed to damaged equipment. 3.0Requested Information 3.1The Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment is requesting information regarding the installation of a full bird prevention system, which will not allow the birds to roost and/or nest under the roof area of the building 546. 3.2The purpose of this RFI is to install bird netting or other material required to meet the following needs: -Devise a complete solution which involves installing durable materials that will prevent the roosting and/or nesting of birds underneath the roof of building 546. -Any bird netting or wire mesh system utilized must include access panels so that maintenance can be performed to the existing fire extinguishing system, lighting, electrical panels, and any other points that would normally need to be accessed to perform routine maintenance. -All holes which might allow birds to access the area under the roof, must be sealed off to prevent birds from entering the area. -Devise a solution for any other items underneath the roof that would allow birds to roost or nest, so that there is no opportunity for birds to land anywhere underneath the roof. 3.3The contractor shall provide, if needed, a solution that meets the minimum needs and is in compliance with local/regional regulations. 3.4The contractor shall provide a solution to ensure that regular maintenance can still be performed on integrated facility (fire system, lighting, electrical fixtures, etc.) items which will be blocked by bird prevention measures. 3.5The contractor shall be complete all work by 15NOV18.
