PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 GEAR OIL The manufacturer of the oil shall have a minimum of 15 years of experience in the processing and manufacture of synthetic gear oil. A qualification statement for the manufacturer shall be submitted with the quote in order for the quote to be considered for award. The qualification statement shall include a description of the business and number of years manufacturing gear oil. Provide gear oil which is the standard product of the manufacturer and from a standard product line. The ISO VG 220 gear oil shall replace oil in a number of existing helical gearboxes manufactured by Horsburgh and Scott (H&S) and Harnischfeger (P&H) and Philadelphia Gear. The H&S gearboxes are primarily utilized for the miter gate drive and tainter valve drive at Locks 1 to 10 in the St Paul District. The H&S gearboxes are quadruple reduction and the gear sets typically can operate under boundary lubrication. The H&S gearboxes were originally furnished with Mobil SHC 630 full synthetic gear oil per manufacturer. The P&H gearboxes are on the dams at Lock 2, Lock 4, and Lock 5 and these are also quadruple reduction. The Philadelphia gearboxes are utilized for the tainter gates at Locks 5A to 10 and many are original from the 1930's. Extreme pressure (EP) additives, if included, shall be compatible with and not damage any bronze bearings in the gearbox. The ISO VG 460 gear oil will be utilized in the worm gear boxes for the roller gates at Locks 3 to 10 and the worm gear boxes at Lower St. Anthony Falls lock. The material composition of the worm gear box components is unknown. However, it is likely the gear is bronze and the worm is hardened steel. EP additives are not necessary but if they are included in the gear oil, they cannot be detrimental or damaging to any bronze gear components. 2.1.1 Gear Oil Parameters - General Requirements Gear oil shall be full synthetic Polyalphaolefine (PAO) based. Gear oil shall meet all requirements of AGMA 9005. The gear oil supplier shall provide data indicating the following general performance requirements are met or exceeded by the product they will provide under the resulting contract. This data shall be provided with the quote to be considered for award. ISO VG 220 or ISO VG 460 gear oil is required depending on gearbox application. Multi-grade gear oil may be considered for award if it meets performance requirements stated in Paragraph 2.1.2. In general, gear oil shall provide for rust and corrosion protection of the gear sets and bearings. Manufacturer data and product literature shall clearly indicate general performance requirements. Specific requirements are provided in Paragraph 2.1.2 Gear Oil Performance Data. 2.1.2 Gear Oil Performance Data Gear oil supplied shall meet the following specific requirements.
