Description
Register of Wage Determinations Under the Service Contract Act Request for Proposals The Asian Division of the Library of Congress has the world's largest Asian language collections outside of Asia, with more than 3.2 million items. However, many of the materials in the collections have not been properly inventoried and recorded into the Library of Congress's integrated library system (ILS), Voyager. The Asian Division's collections are organized by countries or geographic areas, and by serials or monographs. There are six country or area collections: China, Japan, Korea, South Asia, South East Asia, and Tibet/Mongolia. Contractor support is required for the following tasks: inventorying the collections by comparing the information on the physical item with the critical elements in Voyager; pinning and linking monographs, serials, and special formats of materials in the Asian collections; creating item records and summary holdings records in the ILS; preparing the Asian language (mostly Japanese and Korean) serials issues for binding by pulling, collating items, checking and updating the LC online catalog; producing binding tickets using binding preparation software; transporting materials to be bound; disposing of duplicates; re-shelving returned bound items into the proper collection; and shifting and shelving the Asian collections including materials in all formats and all collections from one area to another to prepare for their transfer to off-site storage or to free up shelf space for newly incoming items. The work requires knowledge and understanding of the LC classification system and the Asian Division's policies and procedures for pin and linking, shifting and shelving. Attention to detail is required for the routines in using various ILS modules including cataloging, acquisitions, the online public access catalog, and the ABLE binding software, as well as for the routines involved in shifting and shelving of Asian language materials. Contractor staff shall have prior experience working with serials in Asian languages and with an integrated library system. At least one each of the personnel should have knowledge of Japanese or Korean while working on the binding preparation tasks that involve Japanese or Korean language materials. Please see the attached request for proposals (RFP) for more information.
