Description
This is a Request For Information - This synopsis is for information and planning purposes only and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. No contract will be awarded as a result of this Sources Sought announcement. The United States Geological Survey, Office of Acquisition and Grants is soliciting information from qualified sources; the results of this announcement will be evaluated to determine if there are businesses capable of fulfilling this requirement. The US Geological Survey, Office of Acquisition and Grants seeks responses from vendors that possess the capability to supply Qty. (1) Optical particle size/shape analyzer and associated computer software. The following specifications are required to evaluate particle shape and include the following features: -Modular design that allows for switching between dry dispersion unit and wet dispersion unit. oThe unit being requested is equipped with a dry-dispersion unit which has the ability to analyze particles >0.002 mm. A unit with modular capabilities will allow for the addition of a wet dispersion unit (at a later date) that will allow for the analysis of particles smaller than 0.002 mm. The modularity will allow for cost savings on future purchases of equipment, since the camera and software can be shared. -Bi-Telecentric Lens and ISS imaging sizing software oAllows for particles to be imaged regardless of depth of field (how far they are from the camera) allowing for visual analysis of ALL imaged particles and analysis of shape/morphology parameters (i.e., Contour, Circle, Ellipsis, etc.). These parameters will be used to augment sedimentological studies by evaluating the shape characteristics of each particle in addition to particle size. For example, the roundness characteristics of a given sample could be used to evaluate sedimentary transport history including distance from source and erosional/transport/depositional environments. -Software allowing for the addition and analysis of measurements from other data sources oThe CAWSC has an abundance of sedimentological data (particle-size, -shape, etc.). Software allowing for the digitization and integration of this existing data with optical particle size data is important to combine existing data sets (derived from sieve analyses and manual descriptions) with new optically-derived data sets. Other technical features include: -Modular design that allows for switching between dry dispersion unit and wet dispersion unit. ¿3.0 USB Camera. -Bi-Telecentric lenses (allows for highest shape precision). Allows for the magnification and focus of each particle regardless of the depth of field within the measuring cell. -Software controlled automatic feeder adjustment. -Homogeneous illumination with adjustable exposure time -Meets the requirements of ISO 13322-2 for Dynamic Image Analysis. -ISS (Imaging Sizing Software) - the evaluation software ISS displays each recorded particle as a data point in the immediately available data file/gallery. -Image viewing for each individual particle can be opened directly allowing for immediate analysis of all available size and shape parameters (automatically displayed). -Software allows for an overview of particle shapes of the analyzed sample. -Single Image Analysis - offers the possibility to evaluate each particle according to various (20 possible) shape values/morphology parameters (i.e., Contour, Circle, Ellipsis, etc.). -Allows for the adding of measurements for example from historical sieve data and combining with A28 Image data. For further information, interested parties may contact the Contracting Officer, Charlan Cabalsi, electronically at ccabalsi@usgs.gov by the due date, Tuesday May 8, 2018 at 12:00pm PT.
